Retirement
Corinth is proud to be a Certified Retirement City, one of only 21 communities in the state accorded that recognition by the Mississippi Hometown Retirement Program.
Retirees enrich communities in many ways. They not only increase the tax base by bringing discretionary income to the area, they also bring time, energy, and a wealth of knowledge and experience to share within their new community.
As the local sponsoring agency for the Hometown Retirement Program, The Alliance generates funding and markets the community to retirees. It also works with community leaders to ensure that Corinth maintains its certification. To do so, the community must offer
- affordable housing
- a hospital that meets the needs of aging retirees
- emergency medical services, including ambulance service
- availability of commonly needed goods and services within the local area
- recreational opportunities
- cultural opportunities
- a crime rate lower than the national average.
The Alliance’s Retiree Attraction Committee works to make retirees aware of the many advantages of living in Corinth. Marketing efforts include
- a display at the national AARP convention
- targeted advertising in national magazines popular with retirees
- an out-of-state billboard
- a packet of information ready to mail in response to inquiries
- personal tours for prospective retired residents (by advance arrangement).
To help make retirees feel welcome, included, and connected, The Alliance conducts a meet-and-greet monthly luncheon and speaker program called “Senior Connectors.” Many retirees learn more about their new community and make new friends through these events.
Corinth’s Hometown Retirement coordinator stays current with the latest retirement trends and marketing methods by attending four training programs each year with the Mississippi Development Authority, the parent agency for the Mississippi Hometown Retirement Program.
